Others claimed the witches were actually carrying around a live rare breed of bats that had their own pouches. When the witches needed something the bat”s Spock like ears would twitch, their red eyes would light up and they would fly off to pick up the needed potion or book of spells. Whatever its origins, however, there can be no doubt that the bat clutch has evolved into a costume accessory that no hip witch can be seen without.
